HEIC to JPG Converter

Converts HEIC and HEIF photos from an iPhone or Android phone to JPG or PNG in your browser, several at a time, with a zip download. The new files carry no GPS location, camera or date data. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Is my location removed from the converted photo?

Yes. HEIC photos usually carry the GPS position, the camera model and the date. The converter decodes only the pixels and draws a brand-new JPG or PNG from them, so none of those tags are copied. We checked the output of a HEIC that held GPS, camera and date tags with an EXIF reader: the converted file had none.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The photos are decoded and converted inside this browser tab. The only thing downloaded from this site is the HEIC decoder itself, about 1.5 MB, the first time you convert, and only on this page.

Why do photos look slightly different in colour?

Recent iPhones can save wide-gamut (Display P3) colour. The converter does not convert between colour spaces: the pixels are saved as standard sRGB, so very saturated Display P3 colours can look a little less vivid. For ordinary photos the difference is hard to see.

Why is a JPG smaller or larger than the HEIC?

HEIC compresses roughly twice as well as JPG at similar quality, so a JPG is usually larger. PNG is lossless and is often several times larger still. Choose a lower JPG quality for smaller files.

What about Live Photos, bursts and HDR?

Only the main picture of each file is converted. The short video of a Live Photo, burst extras and the HDR gain map are not included, so the result is a regular still image.
