Frequently asked questions
What is the EUR 3 duty on small parcels?
From 1 July 2026 until 1 July 2028 the EU charges a flat EUR 3 of customs duty for each type of item (one customs declaration line) in a parcel worth up to EUR 150. It applies whether or not the seller uses IOSS. Above EUR 150 the normal tariff for the goods applies instead, which is why you type that duty %.
What changes with IOSS?
IOSS changes when the VAT is paid, not whether duty applies. With IOSS the seller collects VAT at checkout and the parcel is not charged import VAT at the door. Without IOSS the carrier collects VAT at delivery on the goods, shipping, duty and handling fee, plus its own clearance fee. The duty and fee still apply either way; the toggle for who collects them decides whether they are in the VAT base.
What is the EUR 2 handling fee?
A union-level handling fee of EUR 2 for each item applies from 1 November 2026, at any parcel value. The tool treats it as an editable amount and adds it when the declaration date is on or after 1 November 2026, so you can change it if the figure or the rule changes. On non-IOSS imports it joins the VAT base; on IOSS parcels only if the seller charges it at checkout.
Why is the carrier fee separate, and where do I find it?
PostNord, DHL, UPS and FedEx charge their own fee for clearing a parcel and collecting the money, and the amount varies by carrier, route and how the parcel is declared. It is not part of the VAT base here. Type what your carrier quotes; the default is an example for PostNord in Sweden, not a promise.
What about the US, and is this customs advice?
The USD 800 duty-free limit has been suspended for all countries since 29 August 2025, so no allowance is applied and you type the duty % that matches your product and its origin. This is a planning estimate. It does not cover goods with preferential origin, excise or restricted goods, or gifts between private people, and the final charge is set by customs and the carrier.
