Hash Generator
Paste text. The browser's Web Crypto function returns the SHA-256 hash as hex. SHA-1 is there only to check an old checksum, not for security. There is no MD5. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there no MD5?
MD5 is broken as a security hash. SHA-256 is the one to use. SHA-1 is only for checking an old checksum.
Is the text encoded first?
Yes. The text is turned into UTF-8 bytes and those bytes are hashed, which matches sha256sum on a UTF-8 file without a trailing newline.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. This runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste or drop is uploaded or stored by Qivtools.
